Wo Long Fallen Dynasty now released the Battle of Zhongyuan DLC and the crossover with Naraka Bladepoint.

Wo Long Crossover with Naraka: Bladepoint and Zhongyuan DLC Now Available

Two major games inspired by ancient China have now collided in an epic crossover. Wo Long Fallen Dynasty the Action-RPG has gotten a collaboration with fast-paced action title Naraka: Bladepoint. This free update arrives today with armor based on Naraka. Players will gain both the “Loyal Drunk” and “Crimson Night” equipment sets which can be claimed via Deliveries from the Battle Flag menu.

Two new armor sets are available for free with update Ver 1.10 featuring Naraka Bladepoint in Wo Long Fallen Dynasty.
Two new armor sets are available for free with update Ver 1.10 featuring Naraka Bladepoint.

But that’s not the only addition today. The game is getting a new DLC Battle of Zhongyuan which adds further content and challenge for the brave.

Battle of Zhonguan strikes up further challenges.

What’s New in Update Ver 1.10?

Not only do players gain access to the Naraka Bladepoint crossover content. But there is a whole host of additions with version 1.10.

There are some quality-of-life updates such as being able to now equip 8 Wizardry Spells. Players will also be able to store Genuine Qi, which will be available by accessing the Level Up menu upon reaching the maximum level. Any Genuine Qi stored will not be lost upon death. You can also now compare a piece of equipment with another in the inventory menu. This should make it easier to decide which equipment to use.

One big ticket item in this update is the addition of 10 new Wizardry Spells. New spells can be obtained by gaining the item Hidden Tomes. Tomes are dropped by defeating bosses on the Path of the Rising Dragon and further.

Another addition is the consumable item Handheld Gong, this can be gained as a possible drop reward from some enemies. There are new special effects which will be randomly assigned to equipment.

There are also some adjustments when it comes to Wizardry Spells. Players will no longer need to activate Morale Rank for Wizardry Spells. It will now gain certain conditions such as if the Moral Rank is below the listed level Spirit consumption is increased. Also if the spell has a positive effect, it will incur a negative effect that will slow down the automatic Spirit recovery while in Low Spirit.

What’s New with the Battle of Zhongyuan DLC?

Also arriving today is the new DLC Battle of Zhongyuan. Wo Long players will gain access to this paid DLC which grants further stages, enemies, a new difficulty level, further weapon type and more.

Wo Long Fallen Dynasty Cestuses
Battle of Zhonguan introduces a new weapon category Cestuses that certainly packs a punch.

Battle of Zhongyuan Packs a Punch

The DLC adds new weapon category called cestuses which is available at the beginning of the game. This new weapon type certainly packs a punch and will drop at random. A further difficulty mode called “Path of the Soaring Dragon” adds more challenge to the game. Players will need to have conquered a certain number of battlefields before this is made available. Once achieved it will unlock equipment with upgrade levels and higher rarities than the current maximum level. There’s also an increase in the player’s max cap levels and Morale Ranks.

Battle of Zhongyuan DLC for Wo Long Fallen Dynasty Enemies
New enemies, demons and a divine beast await in Battle of Zhongyuan DLC for Wo Long Fallen Dynasty

It wouldn’t be a DLC without further Wo Long enemies and demons to meet. A new Divine Beast also joins the ranks. Players can enjoy new accolade rewards, trophies, achievements, titles and records to boot.

In order to gain access to the DLC, players will have needed to have completed the main battlefield “Tyrant’s Final Banquet” in the main game.

Wo Long Fallen Dynasty is available on PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One and PC. The Battle of Zhongyuan DLC is now available alongside the free update Ver. 1.10.

If you’re currently making your way through the Three Kingdoms, be sure to drop by our Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty wiki to stay on top of challenging bossesarmorweapons and more.

The Kickstarter campaign for the first co-op Action-RPG in the Pathfinder universe has now exceeded its original backing goal.

Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults Kickstarter is Now Fully Funded

The ARPG set in the Pathfinder’s immersive world has now smashed its original Kickstarter goal. Aiming to gain $308,998 USD (CA$ 410,000) the amount now current stands at $342,150 (at the time this was written). There is just a few hours to go. Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults is being developed by Quebec-based developer BKOM Studios. They are doing something quite different to the usual video games based on the pen-and-paper roleplaying game. This time developing an Action-RPG that can be played in co-op.

Pathfinder Action RPG

Earlier at the end of May, we covered the launch of the Kickstarter campaign. It detailed an adventure into the mega-dungeon Gauntlight Keep. In Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults players take up the role of an adventurer against the evil Belcorra. The game can be played as a single-player or in co-op with up to four players. Couch co-op is also promised. Players can venture as either a barbarian, wizard, cleric, or ranger.

What’s most interesting about this game is the deviation from turn-based or strategy-based combat. Previously we’ve had titles such as Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous or Pathfinder Kingmaker. Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults is however inspired by the 2E ruleset and taking those elements into action-based combat. Characters will also have customisation options with “Feat Selection”. While classes dictate the overall theme, there is room for playstyle customisation.

If you want to jump on this project, be sure to do it post haste as the campaign will finish in just a few hours. While the original target has been met for Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults, you can still help back the game and help reach stretch goals. Stretch goals include a new boss dragon Ravirex at $350k USD and new enemy types at $365k.

This isn’t the only recent Pathfinder title to be announced in development by BKOM. The spinoff bullet hell roguelite Pathfinder Gallowspire Survivors was also revealed.

Pathfinder Abomination Vaults will be coming to PC via Steam and GOG with an estimated delivery of July 2025 according to the Kickstarter page.

The latest title Final Fantasy 16 has now surpassed 3 million copies sold since its release just this month.

Final Fantasy 16 Surpasses 3 Million Copies Sold

The Action-RPG Final Fantasy 16 has now reached a massive 3 million in copies sold worldwide says developer Square Enix. The title which launched on Playstation 5 on June 22nd has already this staggering amount. The news was announced via the official game’s Twitter account.

In case you missed it, the latest entry into the long-running franchise goes a touch darker than previous entries. Shaking up combat has the main character being able to channel the power of Eikons as a Dominant. This means being able to fight in human form and utilising major powerful moves as a Dominant. This is a departure from entries past, where characters could use summon moves.

Following the main character Clive, the world of Valisthea is a gritty world at war. This entry is a much darker rendition, set to bring not only emotional damage but a story about sides vying for power. In our review, we gave it a 9.3, which is high praise. It takes the “core elements” of the franchise adding new features. Cas called it one of his “favourite entries in the series” which is really saying something. There’s plenty to enjoy with its “well-crafted story and breathtaking gameplay”.

Final Fantasy 16 packs in the action with a gritty storyline and plenty of new features.

Final Fantasy 16 is currently available as a PS5 exclusive. If you’re about to venture into the world of Valisthea check out our Final Fantasy XVI Beginner Guide.

A new trailer released for Remnant 2 featuring the new location N’Erud is a dystopian nightmare but creepily intriguing.

Remnant 2 Unveils N’Erud Biome in New Trailer

Revealing just a bit more of the upcoming souls-like shooter Remnant 2, developer Gunfire Games showcases the location N’Erud. This decaying biome is full of echoes of the past. A science lab is overgrown with escaped experiments just waiting to greet players. We see although the location has power, creatures are wandering the landscape. AI robots also whizz about doing some jobs left over from the time before.

Remnant 2
Creatures, robots and more await in N’Erud in Remnant 2

What makes this footage so eerie is its quiet surroundings, with occasional whooshes of opening doors. Then there’s the crawling on all fours, backward beings that scuttle in and out of camera view. This new setting for the sequel Remnant 2 looks big and dangerous. The video description explains that the “denizens, the Dryzr” have uncovered a supermassive black hole that could lead to revealing the “mysteries of creation”. However, what exactly has happened to the Dryzr in the process is even more curious.

The second game Remnant 2 looks like it will have lots of enigmas to solve in the game. Players will need to band together using the new archetypes such as the Challenger and Handler to overcome these alien-like creatures in a world time forgot. But from the looks of the new class the Handler, you can also go it alone as the companion dog can even help heal.

Remnant 2 will launch July 25th for PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Happy weekend from Fextralife! If you’ve been too busy to keep up on the latest in the games we cover or are looking for a refresher we’ve got you covered! Here’s a bite-sized version of the Top RPG news of the week. Taste all the latest news across the Fextralife Wiki Network.

Check out the video above and read on for the text!

Avowed

  • It’s been a very busy week gaming news-wise with the Summer Game Fest in full swing. First up let’s talk about Avowed.
  • Obsidian gave the first glimpse of gameplay for the Action-RPG Avowed. Based in the Pillar of Eternity universe. It’s been a few years since Avowed was unveiled during the Xbox Game Showcase in 2020. This year’s showcase unveiled the first look at gameplay, and a release window of 2024.
  • A new trailer features a lone figure stepping off a ship, entering a battle with many swordsmen ready to engage. We also see the character equipped with double pistols for another fight. Swords, bows, and axes are shown. Avowed also gives players the ability to wield magic in first-person.
  • Like in other Pillars of Eternity-based games, players will not be exploring alone. Avowed sets to bring a group of Companions to join you on your adventure. The first introduced is actually the narrator of the trailer. Kai belongs to the Coastal Aumaua
  • Avowed will be released in 2024 coming to Xbox Series, PC via Windows 10/11 and Steam. You will also be able to pick it up on Xbox Game Pass/PC Game Pass on day one.
  • As with all news mentioned in this video the link is in the description below.

Avowed got a new gameplay trailer and release window of 2024.

Fable

  • At long last we finally get a trailer for Fable. The comical trailer revealed at the Xbox Game Showcase featured comedian Richard Ayoade. Ayoade, a “Vegetable Enthusiast” (what does that even mean?) talks about the bygone era of heroes and adventurers.
  • We get a montage of a character getting into brawls, and into some semi-harmless fun at the tavern. But interestingly enough we see them wield fireballs with their hand as well as a quick peek at some sword combat. According to the video, this is all in-game footage.
  • It turns out our narrator is none other than a giant who is at odds with our protagonist. It ends with a sandwich, because why not? The visuals are stunning, with fantasy-overgrown pumpkins and mythical creatures.
  • Unfortunately, no release date was given for Fable this time around. But we can’t wait to see more.

Fable got a new trailer featuring the comical fantasy world.

Starfield

  • Starfield got a massive deep dive this week, going into detail about combat, exploration, ships, skills and more. The Elder Scrolls studio even revealed a Starfield Chronomark Watch, a gadget which will be released alongside the game in the special Constellation Edition.
  • The Starfield universe is an expansive one. Having 1000 worlds, which is not new info but continues to confirm there will be plenty to explore in this RPG. You can visit just about everything you see, including the moon. How you view your surroundings is available in both first and third person.
  • Other details touched upon in the showcase included how guns react in places with less gravity. Using ballistic weapons will push you back as you fire. So opting for energy weapons could be useful as they don’t have the same pushback. Mag weapons offer powerful laser beams. And there’s always a good one-two punch if you prefer taking things into your own hands.
  • Speaking of weapons, the developer shared there are tonnes of weapon mods, which might be Bethesda’s most weapons and weapon mods yet in a game.
  • As for early access, players who order the premium or Constellation Edition will get 5 days of early access. This is just a quick overview about the details mentioned during the Starfield Direct. You can always hop on over to our Starfield wiki for all the latest info.

Clockwork Revolution

  • An interesting title revealed this week was the time-bending RPG Clockwork Revolution. Being developed by the same studio that worked on the Wasteland games, inXile Entertainment had an announcement trailer.
  • This title is a mix of Steampunk, set in the Victoria-era metropolis of Avalon. A picturesque looking utopia but it hides a rather dark secret. Lady Ironwood, a ruthless figure, has manipulated the city’s history using time travel. Altering key events to take advantage of history, for her own power and greed.
  • Clockwork Revolution represents a significant milestone for inXile. It is their first AAA first-person action RPG developed under Xbox Game Studios. Previously, inXile Entertainment has delighted players with tactical and isometric games. But Clockwork Revolution will be all about action and Steampunk.
  • There was no release window but we definitely have our eye on this one.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty

  • Fans of Cyberpunk 2077 finally get to breathe some fresh air. Showed during the Xbox Game Showcase, was a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming expansion Phantom Liberty. More importantly, CD Projekt Red also locked down a release date: September 26th, 2023.
  • The DLC is being touted as a spy thriller, and its narrative seems to be shaping up to be quite good. Phantom Liberty not only expands the storyline but also introduces exciting gameplay mechanics.
  • We got to see some sweet new weapons being used, with a heavy emphasis on silenced weaponry. This keeps in line with the whole spy theme.
  • While not directly related to Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red has promised an update that allows players to shoot out from their vehicles.
  • The DLC can be purchased standalone for $29.99 on PC (via Epic Games, Steam, and GoG), Xbox, and PlayStation. Or as part of the bundle containing the base game on PC and Xbox.

Dragon’s Dogma 2

  • New details were shared about Capcom’s highly anticipated sequel Dragon’s Dogma 2. Director Hideaki Itsuno spilt the beans on some details.
  • The sequel’s open world is going to be four times bigger than the original game. It will keep what fans loved best, the Pawn system, letting players co-op with AI characters. This we kind of expected as this is the essence of Action-RPG’s combat system.
  • The Pawn system is getting a bit of an upgrade combat-wise since the decade-long title was released, as it should. These AI-driven characters are now more “precise” in their actions.
  • These helpful group members now can offer some help navigating and even give a quick morale boost by giving you a high five. The whole premise is to make it feel like you’re fighting alongside your own band of adventurers.
  • Noticeably Dragon’s Dogma 2 has had a graphics upgrade. Its high-def visuals are running on Capcom’s RE Engine.
  • While nothing too shocking was revealed during this quick update, it’s good to know features that fans loved from the first are returning.  Itsuno does promise new details down the line, but we’re itching to hear more, especially about the new vocations.

The Last Faith

  • The Last Faith revealed its high gothic horror aesthetic and brutal soulslike combat in a new minute-long action-packed gameplay trailer. The metroidvania being developed by Kumi Souls Games announced the title will be launching digitally worldwide in October for major consoles and PC.
  • The latest trailer showcases the meticulously hand-crafted environments, formidable enemies, and the arsenal of unique weapons and abilities at protagonist Eryk’s disposal. We also get to see tons of the game’s dark gothic art style in a full macabre display.
  • Players will get to unleash their fury with a wide range of melee weapons, arcane spells, and other ranged firearms. Some of the weapons include massive scythes, precise crossbows, longswords and gigantic greatswords. One of the more famous features of the soulslike genre is massive, larger-than-life boss battles. In this regard, The Last Faith does not seem to disappoint. The one-minute-long footage gave us a glimpse of some truly terrifying foes. Wailing banshees, skeletal werewolves, and other demonic monstrosities.
  • If you can’t wait, head to The Last Faith website to sign up for the beta which will be taking place this Summer via Steam.

Lords of the Fallen

  • A recent trailer debuted at the Future Games Show at Summer Game Fest 2023, spotlighting the Lords of the Fallen’s dual worlds Axiom and Umbral. It previews the dark fantasy’s immersive setting. The developer Hexworks also shares more about how players will dip into both worlds.
  • In case you missed it, Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of the 2014 game. Taking place a thousand years later, as players take up the role of a Dark Crusader. Visceral combat against large horrifying beasts matched with deep storytelling, means we’re in for an immersive experience.
  • What’s interesting about Lords of the Fallen is that the game has two parallel worlds. The latest look at the game shared more about how the worlds interconnect.  Both worlds feature their own pathways, characters and loot.
  • In order to explore Umbral you can use the lamp at any time to reveal the dual world. One way is to be slain in the living world of Axiom, to wake up in the same spot in Umbral. • The demo offers two lengthy sections that showcase the game’s captivating gameplay. First, delve into the opening prologue, providing approximately two and a half hours of gameplay, where you’ll gain insight into Clive Rosfield’s past and the events that shape his present-day journey. The progress you make in this section can be carried over to the main game upon release, offering a seamless continuation of your adventure.
  • Final Fantasy XVI takes a darker tone, offering a complex tale of revenge, power struggles, and of course unavoidable tragedy. The game introduces Eikons, reimagined summons that resides within Dominants—individuals who inherit their immense power at birth.
  • Once you complete the prologue, you’ll unlock a special battle demo, a thrilling two-hour segment filled with intense action. Join Clive as he infiltrates a fort under the cover of night, aided by his loyal wolf companion Torgal and Cidolfus Telamon.

The dual worlds of Lords of the Fallen gets showcased by Xbox previewing the immersive twin worlds.

Lords of the Fallen Dual Worlds Look Double the Fun

A recent trailer debuted at the Future Games Show at Summer Game Fest 2023, spotlighting the Lords of the Fallen’s dual worlds Axiom and Umbral. It previews the dark fantasy’s immersive setting. The developer Hexworks also shares more about how players will dip into both worlds.

In case you missed it, Lords of the Fallen is a reboot of the 2014 game. Taking place a thousand years later, as players take up the role of a Dark Crusader. Visceral combat against large horrifying beasts matched with deep storytelling, means we’re in for an immersive experience. What’s interesting about Lords of the Fallen is that the game has two parallel worlds. The world of the living Axiom and the world of the dead Umbral, are both threatening but in different ways.

What lies beyond the door? Where’s that boss music coming from…

Two In One

A game that is set in two worlds? Sounds complex. Both worlds feature their own pathways, characters and loot. This means you will have different experiences depending on which world you are exploring. The narrator teases “untold horrors” await us in the world of Umbral. But if you think Axiom will be easier, you’d be wrong as the land of living still poses a challenge.

The world of the living Axiom vs the world of the dead Umbral

How to Enter The World of the Dead

In order to explore Umbral you can use the lamp at any time to reveal the dual world. One way is to be slain in the living world of Axiom, to wake up in the same spot in Umbral. Another way is to perform the “Umbral Rift”, sacrificing two of your lives in order to enter.

The Umbral Lamp isn’t only your portal into the world. It also possesses the power to gain the soul from enemies for high-powered attacks. It can also be used to manipulate the world around you, such as pulling floating platforms towards you. The downside of staying in Umbral is the mounting number of spectral beings that will pop up. This means more to slay and more danger.

More than just lighting the way into the world of the dead, the Umbral Lamp holds more powers.

Meet the Bosses

Taking a look at the bosses in Lords of the Fallen, these are not to be trifled with. Previewed is the boss Calrath, a gargantuan demon that is ready to make a pancake out of the player.

Another foul boss is Tancred, Master of Castigations. He will do anything to worship his faith and will stop anything in his path, meaning you. Armed with a staff, the fight begins with flinging spells from afar, and slamming you with the staff if you get too close. But behold there is a phase two, where he removes his armor and fights in his horrific form.

Boss Harrower, Dervla was once one of the good guys, until she saw the true horrors of the world.

Lastly, we meet Harrower, Dervla. Once on the path to defeating the evils within the world, she is exposed to its true horrors and switches sides. Now devout to a “darker oath”. Nothing like taking on a foe that was once good. Whether or not you can bring her back to the good guys remains a mystery, but this boss fight looks epic either way.

Death is Not the End

It’s not known whether the same bosses exist in both Umbral and Axiom, or whether there are different versions depending on the world you exploring. It would be interesting if they shared life, as defeating a colossal boss in one world would mean defeating it in the other. Then again, if both hold different rewards, it might be worth facing both individually.

The duality of the world opens up a lot of possibilities, especially for exploration and combat. Unlike others in the genre such as Mortal Shell, where being knocked out of a shell gives a second chance but at a greater price. Fallen sets to provide a whole world, with different enemies to face.

This looks like another souls-inspired Action-RPG title that’s running with its own unique life-and-death mechanic. We’ll have to wait until October 13th to play, when it arrives on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Developer BKOM and Paizo have announced a spinoff title called Pathfinder: Gallowspire Survivors. Bringing together Pathfinder and bullet hell roguelite.

Pathfinder: Gallowspire Survivor is a Bullet Hell Roguelite

You might not put the genre ‘bullet hell’ together with the tabletop-based game Pathfinder. But a new spinoff is in the works called Pathfinder: Gallowspire Survivor. This roguelite puts players to the test as they face an immortal villain alongside one trusty companion.

Fight waves of the undead in the upcoming roguelite Pathfinder: Gallowspire Survivors

What is Gallowspire Survivor?

Gallowspire is a part of the legendary Pathfinder universe. Players will face hordes of enemies, waves of them. This will require an array of weapons and powerful spells to overcome. Face deadly bosses that only grow stronger with each attempt. Sounds like a challenging time.

Face hordes of enemies as you fight your way to the lich-emperor Tar-Baphon

The world of Golarion is run by a lich-emperor called Tar-Baphon. This villain is one of the most ancient and powerful. Currently, he’s biding his time, sealed away waiting for his time. The wards kept locked away start to fail. It’s up to three courageous heroes to rise up and venture into the depths of Gallowspire. They must defeat Tar-Baphon and seal him once again.

Getting to Tar-Baphon is half the battle. There are hordes of undead and other enemies just waiting to stop these heroes. Simply defeating Tar-Baphon won’t stop him, they will need to face him many times to stall his return as long as possible.

Main Features

Pathfinder: Gallowspire Survivors lets players choose form one of three classes, Fighter, Wizard or Rogue. Each has its own unique playstyle. But you won’t be going it alone. Players will pick another hero to fight alongside as a companion.

To overcome Gallowspire, players will need to take down all four sections and their bosses. As you defeat enemies, you gain essence to use to upgrade character powers. Experience earned will level up heroes and talent points can permanently enhance them. There seem to be many ways to customise a character’s powers using cards to level up weapons and passives.

Risking life and limb also comes with rewards of treasure, these unlock permanent upgrades. Gallowspire will have you completing quests, defeating bosses and facing the Whispering Tyrant. If you want to up the challenge, there 5 tiers of difficulty. But the quest to Tar-Baphon is endless.

Meet the Heroes

Players will get to choose from three legendary heroes as they take on the tower of darkness:

The Fighter – Build with defense, strength and martial skill. With an array of weapons at hand, and a shield to help defend. This hero is powerful from afar as there are up close.

The Rogue – Using their cunning, agility and elusiveness. A fair fight isn’t what’s on the table, they will use any advantage they have. They can use both martial and magical arts to defeat their foe’s weakness.

The Wizard – Has major damage to deal but is a bit of glass cannon. Fire spells to keep enemies at a distance. Lighting, ice or fire, they can use them elements to best their opponent.

Choose Fighter, Rogue or Wizard to face the depths with alongside a companion.

Choosing a Companion

Your main character isn’t going it alone. Team up with a companion that can be leveled alongside you. They can offer both protection and firepower as you fight through the depths. It will be fun to play a game where survival is key in getting closer to the boss. Unlike the CRPG Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous it will be a duo taking on enemies rather than a group. You can upgrade both classes, your main and your companion each run, without the need to grind each separately.

BKOM have been diving into the Pathfinder universe lately, as they recently launched their Kickstarter for the Action-RPG Pathfinder: Abomination Vaults. It’s doing well reaching over $260,000 USD currently, but still short of its $310,000 goal. The project is roughly halfway through its month, so you can go help back the game.

Pathfinder: Gallowspire Survivor doesn’t have a release date yet but will be coming to PC in 2023.

Blizzard achieves new milestone for the Action-RPG Diablo 4 which now has over $666 million in sales.

Diablo 4 Gains a Devilish $666M in Sales In the First Five Days

The first five days has scored Blizzard a cool $666M in sales and counting for Diablo 4. This makes the new entry in the franchise the fastest-selling game for the developer. The game launched on June 6th this month and there are some interesting stats. The most played class is now the Sorceress. The popularity of this class could be down to its mobile playstyle, and mix of ranged/melee capability. If you’re looking for a guide or two check out our Sorcerer builds.

Since the launch, players have killed an astonishing 276 billion monsters in total. In that time there have been 317 million player deaths. You might be wondering how many of those were The Butcher’s alone? Well according to the stats, 5.8 million of those were by The Butcher. However, noticeably the PvP death rate has been a bit on the lower side, only scraping in 430,000 deaths.

The game has also broken records for Blizzard over on Twitch, with Diablo 4 remaining at the top spot for the most streamed game from June 1st to 9th. We’re also a part of that and you can catch us streaming over on Twitch.

If you haven’t checked out the game, take a look at our review where we spent over 120 hours playing.

You can check out the full stats announced by Blizzard below:

  • 276 billion total monsters killed since launch
  • 317 million player deaths
  • 276 million total hours played since early access (that’s more than 30,000 years, or enough time to watch everything on YouTube with 13,500 years to spare)
  • More 166 million player parties created
  • 5.8 million total deaths served by The Butcher
  • 430,000 players killed in PvP battle
  • No. 1 on Twitch from early access on June 1 through June 9, breaking previous Blizzard records for hours streamed and watched over a similar period

The Elder Scrolls 6 might be the last he works on in the series for Todd Howard as he contemplates the future of his time left at Bethesda.

Why The Elder Scrolls 6 May Be Todd Howard’s ‘Last One’

At the helm of the upcoming The Elder Scrolls 6, Todd Howard shares that this could be the last for his career. Howard has been with Bethesda since the mid-1990s, working on such titles as Fallout 3, 4 and as an executive producer of Fallout 76. Howard has been working on the ES series since Daggerfall. Skyrim made history selling over 60 million copies since its launch in 2011.

The Elder Scrolls VI could be Todd Howard’s last game in the series that he helps develops, as he contemplates the future.

Developing Games is Not Just About Speed

Safe to say there is a lot riding on the next Elder Scrolls VI entry. But Howard has shared that this could be his last in an interview with IGN. It’s taking much longer these days to produce games, and doing the maths, at 52 he predicts this could be his last hurrah Elder Scrolls wise. He explains “I want to be faster, but speed isn’t the goal.” Players are also playing games for longer. While it wasn’t their plan to have the next entry beyond 12 years after Skyrim, support for games post-launch is now on a longer cycle.

What’s Next?

With that in mind, how many titles are left under his tenure? The next major sci-fi RPG is Starfield, which got a massive deep dive during the Xbox Game Showcase. The game seems to be moving steadily to its launch in September. In the past, games were simply released as is. But Howard explains now the longevity of support means a “longer period of time”. He jokes he’s “not getting any younger” and that may mean “the last one” he does. Also in the interview, he explained plans for story expansions with “varying sizes” for Starfield.

And then as we look to an Elder Scrolls 6, that is one where… I probably shouldn’t say this. But if I do the math, I’m not getting any younger. How long do people play Elder Scrolls for? That may be the last one I do. I don’t know

Todd Howard Bethesda – via IGN interview

While we won’t be seeing much of Elder Scrolls 6 until Starfield makes its debut, there’s something sombre about knowing that this is most likely Todd Howard’s finale in terms of the series. Fallout 5 might be the next project after ES6 but there could be something else in the works.
