Baldur’s Gate 3’s 1.0 launch will have tons more stuff. Let’s go by the numbers of the new and exciting features come release day.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Launch Details Show Off New Classes, Races, Companions, and More!

Larian revisits their journey with Baldur’s Gate 3 development. One of the things they shared is how gargantuan the experience was, compared to their previous title, Divinity Original Sin 2. That game was created by 120 individuals, across 3 years. Baldur’s Gate 3, on the other hand, was helmed by 400 folks. Development for this one took almost 6 years, many of which were spent in Early Access. Speaking of which, almost 2 million players partook in this early period.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Adventure Awaits!
Adventure Awaits!

Comparing the two herculean games shows exactly how massive a leap Larian took when creating Baldur’s Gate 3. DOS2 had a total of 5 races, as compared to BG3’s 11 (and 31 subraces, more on this later). The older game had 225 player spells and actions compared to BG3’s 600. DOS2 also had 45 talents (passive skills) vs the newer game’s 308.

Baldur’s Gate 3 also has a staggering 2 million words in its script. This probably doesn’t account for the various lore books, item descriptions, and other fun tidbits. The game’s cinematics are also three times the length of all three mainline Lord of the Rings movies, combined. No mention though if this is the regular or the (superior) extended cut editions.

The new news for Baldur’s Gate 3 is the confirmation of the level cap, new races, the monk class, and possible party companions.

A Feather in Your Cap

One of the biggest announcements was that Larian confirmed that Level 12 will be the max level in Baldur’s Gate 3. While they originally planned the maximum to be level 10, they realized that there were too many fun abilities locked behind level 12. They did not go too much into detail, but they did mention spells such as Planar Allies, Otto’s Irresistible Dance, and Chain Lightning.

Two new races have also been confirmed, though one was possibly teased in one of the previous trailers. Players can now choose to be a Dragonborn or a Half-Orc. The Dragonborn has a plethora of choices when it comes to subraces. Specifically, we have Black, Blue, Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold, Green, Red, Silver, and White. A player’s choice of subrace will determine the character’s damage and resistance strengths.

Half-orcs seem to be the perfect choice for those who want to be in the thick of things, like Barbarians or Fighters. They have powerful Savage Attacks which deal insane crit damage. Defense-wise, they get Relentless Endurance which saves them from outright death, letting them live to fight another day (or at least 1 more turn, if unlucky).

Class is in Session

The announcement also confirmed not just the 12th class, the monk, but also all of the new subclasses being thrown into the mix.

Baldurs-Gate-3-Launch-Classes

Players will get to select Wild Magic Barbarians, Spore Druids, Champion Fighters, Gloom Stalker Rangers, Assassins, Storm Sorcery Sorcerers, Sword Bards, Archfey Warlocks, or Vengeance Paladins. Clerics get a ton more options, with the Knowledge, Nature, Tempest, and War subclasses opening up. Wizards get a similar treatment with the new Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Necromancy, Illusion, and Transmutation subclasses being made available.

Baldur's Gate 3 - A Somewhat Worried Half-Orc

Monks are your traditional punchy martial class. They prefer to be light on their feet, with some traversal options like Step of the Wind. This class fights best when unencumbered by pesky things such as armor and heavy weapons, preferring to fight with Unarmored Defense, clubs, or even just their fists. Monks will have three subclasses available to them: Open Hand for close beat-em-up combat, Shadow for stealthy sneaking, and Four Elements for launching spells with your fists.

Three’s Company

Baldur’s Gate’s 6th Origin Character has been confirmed. The Barbarian Karlach, previously an in-game quest giver, will now have a fully playable Origin Story. Just like Astarion, Gale, Shadowheart, Lae’zel, and Wyll, Karlach can be a permanent companion in your party as well. Larian did tease that there will be a seventh and final Origin Character that will be revealed in next week’s Panel from Hell.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Companion Karlach the Barbarian

Moving on to non-origin companions, we get confirmation that Halsin, Jaheira, Minsc, and Minthara will be recruitable. We do know that both Halsin and Jaheira are druids, Minsc will likely be a Ranger like in old times, and Minthara is a Paladin.

Larian did mention that there were plans to lock party compositions after the game’s first act, like in a pivotal moment in DoS2. However, they backtracked on this decision and will allow players to swap their companions at any point in the game instead. They further confirm that most companions will be romanceable, specifically calling out Halsin the druid.

Feats and Spells, and Baldur’s Gate 3

There are tons more info revealed in the lengthy press announcement. The game will launch with 37 feats in total. Some of the new feats in the launch version are Resilient, Elemental Adept, Dungeon Delver, Sentinel, Lucky, Mage Slayer, Heavy Armour Master, Sharpshooter, Medium Armour Master, Ritual Caster, Savage Attacker, Performer, Polearm Master, Durable, and Observant.

BG3 - Fus-Ro-Dah!

The game will also have over 600 spells. Some of the new ones being introduced are Banishing Smite, Hold Monster, Cloudkill, Heroes’ Feast, Disintegrate, Sunbeam, Destructive Wave, Blinding Sickness, Flesh Rot, Circle of Death, and more.

A Countdown to Greatness

The surprise announcement that Baldur’s Gate 3’s PC version releasing 4 weeks earlier could not have made us more excited. Just like previously announced, those who already own the Early Access version will have a 72-hour head start, though limited only to the game’s first Act. Speaking of which, there will also be three difficulties at launch: Normal, Story, and Hardcore.

Baldur’s Gate 3 gets a surprising announcement that its release on PC has been moved up a few weeks.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Surprisingly Be Released 4 Weeks Earlier, at Least on PC

In a surprising turn of events, in a world filled with countless different delays for various reasons, Larian Studios has decided to shock us all. Larian announced today in a press release that the threequel’s highly anticipated release was actually bumped up instead of another delay. The PC version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 3, instead of the original release on August 31st. This essentially moves its release up four whole weeks.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Shadowheart

The unfortunate news? The PlayStation 5 version has been delayed to September 6th. This puts it in direct competition with a little indie game called Starfield

The More Frames, the Better!

Larian Studios has announced that the development of Baldur’s Gate 3 for the PS5 edition requires additional time to achieve the desired 60 frames per second. Rather than compromising on quality, the studio has decided to postpone the game until it meets its standards.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Build-a-Hero

In their statement, Larian expressed their commitment to delivering a high-quality experience. Baldur’s Gate 3 is aiming for a smooth 60fps, and while the team is making good progress on the platform, they require a bit more time. Larian is adamant about not giving in to compromises on the quality of the game, and that it would be a disservice to settle for 30fps or make other shortcuts just to meet an arbitrary deadline.

Baldur's Gate 3 - Mind Flayin' Time!

Larian emphasized their dedication to pushing the boundaries of RPGs on the PS5, stating, “We understand that folks may be disappointed with this but we’re close enough to reaching new heights for RPGs on the system that the benefits of a short delay outweigh the downsides of rushing the PS5 release and having to downscale.

Baldur’s Gate 3 on Team Green

Regarding the Xbox version of BG3, Larian acknowledged the technical limitations of the Series S console as a potential roadblock. While the studio remains optimistic about bringing the game to the Xbox Series X, their priority is to ensure optimal performance across the entire Series X|S ecosystem, without any compromises. Larian assured fans that they are investing substantial effort into making it work and will provide updates on the progress.

Baldur's Gate 3 - She Does Not Approve

With this, they have committed to releasing a good product on Microsoft’s consoles. Just like the PlayStation 5, Larian is ready to release the game only when it’s ready.

Larian also confirmed that they are actively developing a comprehensive Mac version of Baldur’s Gate 3, which will be released at a later date. Michael Douse, the publishing boss at Larian, expressed the studio’s commitment to releasing the game on multiple platforms while maintaining the highest quality standards:

We’ve always been a studio that aims to release on as many platforms as possible, in order of readiness. We’ve also aimed for the highest possible quality on every platform we’ve released on… (Baldur’s Gate 3) features over 170 hours of cinematics, more than twice the length of the entirety of Game of Thrones, and more than three times the dialogue of all three Lord of the Rings novels combined.” the quote reads.

Douse added that delaying the PC version would have been the wrong decision, given their confidence in meeting the required standards. Players will be able to face off against Jason Isaacs’ antagonist much, much earlier than anticipated.

The Final Panel from Hell?

Larian intends to provide more details about Baldur’s Gate 3 during the Panel From Hell: Release Showcase event on July 7. Be sure to stay tuned here at Fextralife and the Baldur’s Gate 3 Wiki for more on the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is Larian’s next foray into turn-based sandbox RPGs. Players will be able to create their own characters with questionable origins. They will select between the traditional D&D classes, with all the skills, abilities, and feats that come with it. Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure introduces sweeping changes to class weapons, reward systems, and more!

Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure Expansion Unveils a Skybound Adventure

As the elder dragon cycle draws to a close, a new threat emerges in the world of Tyria. Guild Wars 2 enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating the release of the game’s highly anticipated fourth expansion, Secrets of the Obscure.

With its scheduled launch on August 22, 2023, players will be pulled into a captivating storyline and introduced to a mystical archipelago hidden above the clouds. Today, we take a look at an overview of what players can expect from this new expansion.

Through the Fire, Into the Flames

Secrets of the Obscure introduces a breathtaking realm of mystery and magic concealed above the clouds. Initially, players will explore two expansive aerial maps and venture into the depths of the Wizard’s Tower outpost. As the story progresses through subsequent updates, a new explorable zone will unravel, offering endless opportunities for discovery.

Players are called upon to join forces with the Astral Ward, a valiant group dedicated to defending Tyria against the encroaching Kryptis forces. These malevolent entities emerge through rifts in reality, launching a siege on the celestial domain of Amnytas. As players ascend through the ranks of the Astral Ward, they will face increasingly formidable adversaries across both new and existing maps, unlocking valuable rewards along their journey.

To combat the ever-expanding threat, players will harness the power of the Heart of the Obscure, a mystical artifact with unique capabilities. By mastering its enigmatic powers, players will be able to track and eliminate the rifts, revealing new dangers as they dive deeper into the mystery.

The Wizard’s Vault

The Wizard’s Vault, a prestigious location within the expansion, serves as a hub for a variety of in-game achievements. Completing daily, weekly, and regular tasks across the game will earn players special currency called Astral Acclaim.

Astral Acclaim can be exchanged for a wide range of exciting rewards, such as new weapon and armor skins, select items previously exclusive to the gem store, crafting materials, gold, mystic coins, legendary crafting starter kits, and more.

With regular updates, the selection of available items will expand, guaranteeing an ever-evolving shopping experience for players.

Combat Perfected

Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure aims to provide players with meaningful combat choices beyond just introducing new elite specializations. Each existing profession already possesses diverse roles and playstyles with the number of options available to them. For this expansion, the focus is on strengthening and refining existing combat systems while eliminating longstanding limitations. This will ultimately offer players even more build options.

Guild Wars 2 Secrets of the Obscure - Expect Tons of Combat Changes in the Expansion
Expect Tons of Combat Changes in the Expansion

One exciting aspect of expansion releases is the introduction of new weapons and weapon skills through elite specializations. Traditionally, equipping elite specialization weapons required players to commit to the corresponding trait line. However, Secrets of the Obscure introduces Weaponmaster Training. This is a system that transforms the elite specialization weapons associated with each profession into core proficiencies.

Once players unlock Weaponmaster Training, they can use elite specialization weapons without equipping the corresponding trait line, even if they haven’t trained that elite specialization. This means that players can mix and match weapons from associated elite specializations, even without owning previous expansions. However, owning the appropriate expansion and fully unlocking each elite specialization will still be necessary to utilize their trait line and acquire signature weapons and armor pieces.

Armed to the Teeth

The following weapons will become part of each profession’s core proficiencies in Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure:

  • Guardian: Axe (main hand), sword (off-hand), longbow
  • Revenant: Shield (off-hand), greatsword, short bow
  • Warrior: Dagger (main and off-hand), pistol (off-hand), torch (off hand)
  • Engineer: Mace (main hand), sword (main hand), hammer
  • Ranger: Dagger (main hand), hammer, staff
  • Thief: Scepter (main hand), rifle, staff
  • Elementalist: Sword (main hand), warhorn (off-hand), hammer
  • Mesmer: Axe (main hand), dagger (main hand), shield (off hand)
  • Necromancer: Pistol (main hand), torch (off-hand), greatsword

Furthermore, a few new skills will be introduced to accommodate edge cases, such as the berserker’s Primal Burst with a dagger or the untamed’s Unleashed Ambush with a staff.

A Rune Reworded

In line with the goal of providing meaningful build choices, Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure streamlines the rune system. Currently, runes offer five tiers of straightforward stat bonuses, with the sixth tier providing additional bonuses or special effects. However, the sixth tier sometimes tied two build components to a single choice.

Guild Wars 2 Combat
Guild Wars 2 Combat

With the expansion’s release, the sixth tier of each rune set will complete the stat bonuses associated with that set, removing additional special effects or conditional bonuses entirely. To maintain special bonus effects in combat, they have been separated into their own build component, offering players more control over their builds.

Relics Reforged

Starting August 22, every player’s build will include a relic slot that becomes usable at level 60. Many relics, accessible to all players regardless of expansion ownership, replicate the functionality of popular sixth-tier rune bonuses. For example, the Relic of the Trooper mirrors the previous sixth-tier Trooper rune effect of removing a condition from each affected ally after using a shout skill.

Guild Wars 2 Secrets of the Obscure - Fight Back the Darkness
Fight Back the Darkness

Core relics have updated effects compared to the sixth-tier runes they were associated with, such as the Relic of the Thief, which grants a 1% increase in strike damage for 6 seconds, up to a maximum of 5 stacks, and refreshes the duration of all stacks upon striking an enemy with a weapon skill that has a cooldown or resource cost.

Relics can be obtained through crafting, instanced content like Fractals of the Mists and Strike Missions, reward tracks, achievements, and more. To celebrate the new system, all players will receive a relic selection box at launch.

Sky’s the Limit

The skyscale mount, introduced in Living World Season 4 after Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire, revolutionized the way players navigate the maps in Guild Wars 2. The freedom and movement options provided by the skyscale mount have been well-received, and ArenaNet wants to ensure that as many players as possible can experience it. As a result, Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure will introduce a new method of acquiring the skyscale mount. Regardless of whether or not players own Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire or have completed the original skyscale collection, the expansion will provide a streamlined collection process to unlock their very own skyscale.

Building upon existing Mastery lines, the new flight Masteries complement the player’s aerial capabilities. Progression unlocks features such as the ability for flying mounts to traverse leylines and utilize updrafts, even in previously explored maps. Dedicated players who train both flight Masteries will unlock additional bonuses for their skills, further enhancing their gameplay experience.

A Rewarding Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure boasts a wide array of enticing rewards for dedicated players. At launch, players can earn the Rift Hunter and Astral Ward armor sets, with a demonic set becoming available in a later release. Throughout the expansion, completing story chapters, collections, and achievements will unveil a treasure trove of rewards, including weapon sets, unique weapons, back items, combat tonics, infusions, guild decorations, miniatures, emotes, and more.

The expansion will also (eventually) introduce a set of legendary armor. This will grow more powerful in combat as it becomes infused with magic. It is also noteworthy that this will be the first set of Legendary Armor not tied to raids. Players can go collect and explore the open world instead!

Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure

With the imminent release of Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure, players can look forward to returning to the skies above Tyria. From soaring through awe-inspiring vistas to battling against otherworldly forces and uncovering hidden treasures, this expansion promises a wealth of new content and experiences.

Brace yourselves for an enthralling journey as the Secrets of the Obscure expansion quite literally expands the horizons of Guild Wars 2 on August 22, 2023. The game can be preordered on the main site, or on Steam after its 10th Anniversary. Fans of the highly successful MMO (that’s perfect on the Steam Deck!) don’t have to wait too long.

Temtem: Showdown fights its way onto Steam as a free-to-play creature battle simulator.

Temtem: Showdown is a Free-to-Play Multiplayer Monster Battler

Publisher Humble Games and developer Crema have recently announced and released Temtem: Showdown this June 26th. The title is a free-to-play and microtransaction-free version of the popular creature collection turn-based MMORPG, Temtem. Temtem: Showdown provides players with immediate access to the game’s competitive multiplayer battle simulator.

In this article, we will delve into the key features, gameplay mechanics, and online multiplayer aspects of Temtem: Showdown. The game is also available exclusively on PC via Steam.

Gotta Catch ‘Em All!

Temtem: Showdown offers accessible, fast-paced, and free multiplayer battles. One key highlight is that it eliminates the need for players to level or tame creatures called Temtem.

Temtem Showdown - Face Off Against Friends and Foes Alike
Face Off Against Friends and Foes Alike

Players can quickly build their teams and engage in ranked matches against opponents from around the world. Temtem: Showdown boasts a “balanced and diverse meta”. This will be supported by regular balance patches from the developer, to keep the experience fresh. They also promise a new “season” every few months that will shake things up.

There are over 150 unique species in Temtem, offering a huge amount of choices for players to build up their dream team. This number is also made even more special when you realize that there are also elemental affinities, just like Pokemon types. There are 12 types in total, and a Temtem can have one to two affinities.

Temtem Showdown - Big Damage Incoming!
Big Damage Incoming!

The series’ signature two-versus-two battle system delivers action-packed encounters and strategic fights, devoid of any RNG. This should prove to make things feel more competitive and balanced as randomness is quite the thorn in many a player’s side.

While Temtem: Showdown focuses primarily on the competitive aspect, the game is set in the Airborne Archipelago. This is a rich and diverse world that is filled with various islands and environments. Each island is home to different types of Temtem, adding depth to the team-building aspect of the game.

An Online Showdown

Temtem: Showdown offers a range of online multiplayer features, including competitive battles and tournaments. Players can participate in community-run tournaments, including the TemCS, the official Temtem esports circuit, with exciting prizes at stake.

Temtem Showdown - Epic Battles of Miniature Proportions
Epic Battles of Miniature Proportions

Additionally, friendly matches with friends allow players to practice their strategies, test their teams, and earn bragging rights. The game fosters a thriving community and emphasizes the importance of teamwork and cooperative play.

As with any competitive online game, Showdown will have a ladder system in place. It is safe to assume some sort of ranking will show off the greatest Temtem battlers. Becoming the very best, like no one ever was, should be at the top of any Temtem master’s list.

Temtem Integration with Temtem Showdown

Players who already own the Temtem base game can seamlessly link their accounts to Temtem: Showdown. This will ensure that any changes made to squads, Temtems, or characters are reflected in both games. Competitive rewards earned in Temtem: Showdown are stored and automatically transferred to the base game account when linked. Essentially, this provides an incentive for players to explore the full Temtem experience.

Different Temtem Types
Different Temtem Types

Temtem: Showdown will continue to receive regular updates and balance changes, paralleling the development of the Temtem base game. The development team promises to listen to the voice of the community, incorporating feedback to refine the game into an evolution that will satisfy its fanbase.

Major updates will occur every four months, with the possibility of minor balance changes in between. Players can expect new content, features, and balance adjustments to keep the competitive scene fresh and ever-changing.

Temtem: Pokemon

Temtem is often seen as an interesting alternative to the Pokémon franchise. While Pokemon has been the dominant creature collection game for years, Temtem brings a fresh approach to the genre. With its multiplayer focus, strategic battles, and regular updates, Temtem: Showdown offers a competitive experience that captivates both longtime Pokemon fans and newcomers.

Temtem Showdown - Simple Joys in Deep Combat
Simple Joys in Deep Combat

The Airborne Archipelago provides a vibrant world to explore, filled with diverse Temtem species and engaging quests. By emphasizing cooperative play and community-run tournaments, Temtem: Showdown fosters a sense of camaraderie among players. The game’s commitment to regular updates and balance changes ensures an ever-evolving experience, keeping players engaged and excited for what’s to come.

While it may not have the critical acclaim of Pokemon (yet), or the hilariously absurd shenanigans of Palworld, Temtem: Showdown looks to be quite the contender in the creature collection genre.

It was originally released for the PlayStation consoles, including PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The franchise eventually expanded to other platforms. While the series initially focused on the Japanese market, recent titles have been localized for a wider audience. This allowed fans worldwide to indulge in the enchanting alchemical world of Atelier. At the heart of the franchise lies the concept of the atelier, a workshop specializing in alchemy. Players are immersed in a gameplay experience where they search for, collect, and combine items to create powerful concoctions and progress through the game.

The success of the games has led to the creation of manga adaptations and two anime adaptations, further expanding the reach of the Atelier universe.

The Tecmo Effect

Koei Tecmo is also working on an anime action game, Fate/Samurai Remnant which is a continuation of the Fate series. They also released action games Wild Hearts and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty this 2023.

Lost Ark gets wind of tons of updates, raids, a new class, and more during the LOA ON SUMMER showcase last June 24th.

Lost Ark LOA ON SUMMER 2023 Reveals Plans for the Game Moving Forward

Smilegate RPG’s LOA ON SUMMER event provided exciting updates and plans for Lost Ark. Specifically, they catered to the interests of fans eagerly awaiting new content. While the entire showcase is a preview of what’s to come immediately in the Korean version, a lot of the QoL changes will find their way into the West much earlier.

Held last June 24th, the LOA ON SUMMER announcement was a 3-hour-long showcase. Amazon Games Studios took the time to outline some of the changes we’ll be getting much earlier. This is separate from the Lost Ark Roadmap 2023 which was revealed back in April.

A High Quality of Life Lost Ark

July will bring a wave of quality-of-life changes to enhance the overall player experience and prepare the ground for the major progression updates coming in August. These changes include more accessible progression mechanics such as increased success rates for honing gear and reduced requirements for honing materials and gold costs.

Lost Ark - July Teaser

A Legendary wandering merchant will be introduced to facilitate the collection of stepping-stone cards, making it easier for players to obtain valuable resources. Additionally, players will no longer need to use Pheons to transfer ability stones and accessories within the same Roster. This should be one of the biggest sighs of relief in gearing alts, as the game is primarily designed to have a healthy roster of characters instead of having a singular “main”.

The Summer of Arks

The Maharaka Festival, a summertime event, will return with various new activities. Players will have the opportunity to bask in the virtual sun, engage in unique games, and earn valuable progression rewards that will aid in preparing for the arrival of new raids in August. Among the festival’s special activities is the “Run, Mokokos!” section, where players can compete against each other as Mokoko characters, navigating obstacles to reach the finish line. The festival promises a delightful diversion for adventurers of all levels.

Lost Ark - August Teaser
August Teaser

August marks the arrival of significant changes aimed at improving the experience for both new and returning players. The focus will be on consolidating Tier 1 and Tier 2, streamlining progression, and introducing various quality-of-life improvements. One of the key benefits for new and returning players is the ability to catch up faster, as they will be able to earn older Legion Raid materials more quickly.

Lost Ark - The Maharaka Festival Returns

Progression events, such as the Powerpass and an upgraded Hyper Express Event, will provide additional support and rewards, allowing players to level up their characters efficiently. Lost Ark’s Hyper Express Event in particular will be upgraded. The honing boosts will last up to item level 1490. It will even have some goodies left over until item level 1540.

Consolidated Tiering

The consolidation of earlier Tiers will eliminate repetitive progression, enabling players to progress swiftly to the exciting Tier 3 endgame content. This is actually quite a large overhaul, as Amazon Games will be removing systems entirely from the game. For instance, Tier 1 and 2 will be combined into a “New Tier 2”. Old gear will be converted into a new set, which also include set bonuses like those in Tier 3.

A Summer Gift for the West
A Summer Gift for the West

You can also expect to use better Engravings at level 50. Accessories will also no longer include negative effect engravings, making us much more powerful in the early game. Lost Ark’s Tier 2 will now range from item levels 500 through 1100, instead of the current 802 to 1225.

The adjustments in Tier 3 include updates to gear sets, crafting ingredients, honing levels, and rewards, and creating a more streamlined upgrade path. Material costs in particular will be reduced across the board. An unexpected change also details that materials used to craft Relic-level Brelshaza Gear is being removed from the game. In its place, players will earn the “Phantom Intentions” currency from both Normal and Hard Mode raids to craft Relic gear.

LOA ON KOREA

Okay, so Amazon discussed what’s coming to the West. What about Lost Ark’s Korean version?  Firstly, a new class called Souleater will be introduced on July 19th in Korea. This class wields a scythe and appears to be a heavy-hitting assassin, offering quite a reaping experience. It’s a shame that they didn’t name this class the Reaper instead. Just like other assassin classes, the Souleater has some demonic tricks up her sleeve.

MMO: The Reaper... er, Souleater
The Reaper… er, Souleater

In September, players can look forward to the highly anticipated Thaemine raid. This features the strongest of the legion commanders. This darkness-themed raid will introduce a new gauge mechanic related to darkness, similar to the plague gauge in Akkan. Additionally, the Veskal Guardian Raid will be released alongside the Thaemine raid.

Lost Ark - Face Off Against Theramine

Another notable addition is the Transcendence system, a new progression mechanic coming with the Thaemine update. More details about this system will be revealed in September. Furthermore, a summer event with new skins, a timed challenge called Hanumatan trial mode, and various updates and buffs for new players were announced.

Come Find the Lost Arks!

Lost Ark players can look forward to these upcoming changes, which aim to streamline progression systems. Hopefully, these changes provide ample opportunities for new and returning players to engage with the game’s exciting content.

Lost Ark - The Roadmap for Korea
The Roadmap for Korea

Smilegate RPG and Amazon Games are dedicated to keeping adventurers in Arkesia entertained and engaged. With the promise of new raids, progression events, and a summer gift to celebrate the player community, Lost Ark continues to change and evolve.

Starfield gets some new info and other musings in an interview with Todd Howard. He talks about many points, both old and new.

Starfield: More Info Surfaces in Kinda Funny Todd Howard Interview

Todd Howard, renowned game developer and director at Bethesda Game Studios, recently shared details on the process of creating the highly anticipated game, Starfield. In an over 40 minute interview, Howard discussed the challenges and decisions involved in showcasing a game of such magnitude within a limited timeframe.

While we do gloss over a lot of information that was previously shown off in the recent deep dive, there’s still a lot to unpack and appreciate in the interview. We’ve condensed the major points here.

An Amazing Scope of the Stars

Reflecting on previous experiences, Howard highlighted the team’s expertise in delivering captivating demos. He cited Fallout 4 and a sizeable Starfield demo from the previous year’s Xbox Showcase. The positive response from fans served as a driving force for the team.

With Starfield being a new IP and an ambitious project, the team eagerly embraced the opportunity to provide a deep dive into the game during the Starfield Direct presentation.

Starfield - Are We Alone in the Universe
Are We Alone in the Universe

Emphasizing the team’s pride in the presentation, Howard expressed satisfaction in being able to showcase previously unseen team members who have poured their passion into the game. While only a fraction of the team could be featured, their collective dedication and contributions have infused Starfield with immense potential, leaving Howard hopeful that players will share the team’s love for the game.

Creating Yourself

Howard also provided insights into Starfield’s character creation systems, focusing on the significance of backgrounds and traits. Backgrounds offer players a chance to make meaningful choices right from the start, allowing for immersive role-playing experiences. Meanwhile, traits, reminiscent of those found in Fallout, bring positive and negative effects to the gameplay, offering fresh ways to approach the game on subsequent playthroughs.

Starfield - Character Customization
Character Customization

As the conversation delved into the skill tree and character progression, Howard shed light on the flexibility offered to players. The skill tree’s tiered structure grants players the freedom to focus on specific areas of expertise, with badges and patches unlocking as progress is made. This design choice encourages players to discover and share unique character builds.

Things to See and Do in Starfield

Moving on to gameplay specifics, Howard touched on the exploration and discovery aspect of Starfield. He reveals the ability for players to engage in activities outside of the main story, such as becoming a space pirate or smuggler. These additional roles have been carefully integrated into the game to ensure a seamless experience, with players encountering factions like the Crimson Fleet and facing contraband scans and other immersive systems during their journeys.

A 1000-Planet Universe
A 1000-Planet Universe

The interview took an amusing turn as Howard was asked about the possibility of fishing and engaging with alien creatures. While Howard left the door open for surprises, he humorously acknowledged the challenges of meeting all expectations. He reiterated the team’s commitment to striking a balance between hand-crafted and procedural content, assuring players that the thousand planets in Starfield will offer worthwhile experiences, even if certain activities remain technologically out of reach.

Starfield - Space faring Combat Ahoy!
Space faring Combat Ahoy!

Howard further discussed the diversity of biomes, hazards, and planet sizes, noting that careful attention has been paid to ensure each planet’s unique characteristics and challenges. Weather patterns, radiation levels, and temperature variations influence gameplay, necessitating suitable preparations and adding another layer to the exploration aspect. However, Howard made it clear that spacefaring activities are prioritized over land vehicles. He highlights the exhilarating experience of using the boost pack and traversing low-gravity planets.

In Space, Nobody Can Hear You Scream

Addressing companions and crew members, Howard detailed the depth of their interactions. As expected, we’ll have the option to embark on individual questlines and romances with the main Constellation companions. He also confirmed that companions would respect personal boundaries, while still evolving based on player decisions. While the Constellation companions were given extensive development, Howard suggested that romances with other companions might not be as involved.

Skill Trees and Badges

Howard was also asked about Steam Deck compatibility. However, he deferred the topic for future discussions. This left the handheld’s fans eager for more details to come.

Starfield - Starship Docking

Lastly, Howard discussed the integration of music in Starfield, emphasizing its role in setting the game’s mood. Collaborating with renowned composer Inon Zur, the team has crafted another high-impact soundtrack. This dynamic score adapts to the game’s current state. It thus seamlessly transitions between tracks to heighten immersion during pivotal moments.

Standby for Planetfall

Todd Howard’s interview offered fans a deeper understanding of the thought and effort invested in Starfield’s development. With its focus on player agency, the expansive 1000-planet universe, and immersive gameplay elements, Starfield aims to deliver an unparalleled NASA-punk experience when it launches in the near future.

Starfield launches worldwide on September 6, 2023. However, purchasers of the Premium and Collector’s editions will be able to play 5 days early. It is exclusive to the Microsoft ecosystem, dropping only on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Be sure to jump on over to the Starfield Wiki for more info on the game.

Players can already get a taste of the action-packed adventure, as a demo is currently available on Steam as part of the Steam Next Fest.

Developed by Beamdog and published by Aspyr, MythForce initially entered Early Access in April 2022 via the Epic Games Store for PC. The upcoming version 1.0 release will bring significant updates, such as three thrilling episodes, enhanced difficulty modes, and a revamped meta-progression system with drop-in/drop-out functionality for online cooperative play.

Trent Oster, CEO of Beamdog, expressed his excitement about MythForce, stating, “It’s reminiscent of the pure unadulterated fun we had playing together as kids.” The game aims to capture the nostalgic charm of classic 80’s cartoons like He-Man, Thundercats, and more.

MythForce’s recent release on Steam has already garnered a dedicated following and even has its own merchandise shop. Additionally, discussions are underway regarding the possibility of turning the game into an actual cartoon, further solidifying its status as a nostalgic gem.

Progressively Progression

While MythForce’s initial launch primarily focused on the core gameplay experience, the developers have listened to player feedback and are now emphasizing character and player progression. The latest release introduces a constellation system, allowing players to personalize their characters and develop unique playstyles. By placing earned perks into a constellation tree, players can tailor their characters’ abilities, increasing attack damage, energy, mobility, and more.

Further customization options await players in the game’s hub area, called “The Citadel,” where they can upgrade weapons, use emotes, and more. Although MythForce currently offers one chapter called “Bastion of the Beast Lord,” additional content is planned for the future, including two more chapters, “Crypt of the Necromancer” and “Cauldron of Bats.”

It’s All About Character in MythForce

Speaking further of customization, players will be able to choose one of four heroes throughout their journey.

Victoria, The Knight

Victoria, the fearless leader of MythForce, wields her mighty mace and shield to combat Deadalus’ wicked minions. Known for her bravery, she fearlessly charges across the battlefield to protect her allies. Victoria, who previously served as Captain of the Queen’s Guard, resigned from her post to gather heroes from all corners of the kingdom. Her ultimate goal is to lead MythForce in a battle against the Castle of Evil.

Maggie, The Mage

Maggie, the talented mage of MythForce, brings a bit of magic to the battlefield. With her magical abilities, she summons her friendly owl companion to rain fire upon their enemies. Maggie possesses the unique ability to blink across the battlefield in an instant and can shield her friends with a protective magical bubble. A prodigious magician, Maggie astonished her peers at the renowned Lyceum, much to the chagrin of the previous star pupil, Hexstar. Now, she fights alongside MythForce, while Hexstar stands with the Castle of Evil.

Hawkins, The Hunter

Hawkins, the master archer of MythForce, excels at striking enemies from a distance. He possesses the uncanny ability to enter the spirit realm and haunt his foes, leaving them with a creepy chill. Hawkins surprises his enemies with explosive arrows, shattering their hopes of conquest. Initially a solitary monster hunter seeking vengeance for his mentor, Hawkins declined Victoria’s initial call to arms. However, after witnessing her heroic act of saving his town from horrors, he decided to lend his bow to MythForce.

Rico, The Rogue

Rico, a former assassin, now fights alongside his former enemies as a member of MythForce. His cunning nature allows him to employ dirty tricks, whether it’s throwing sand in the face of his foes or executing a sudden backstab. Despite his checkered past, Rico has embraced his new role as a hero. MythForce acknowledges the importance of having him on their side. Raised as an assassin within the Castle of Evil, Rico experienced a change of heart upon witnessing Victoria’s heroism. After suffering his first defeat at the hands of MythForce, he chose to join their ranks and fight against his former master.
